OK, so I spent the weekend painting. Outside. En plein air, which is French for “standing out in the sun for two days struggling with changing sunlight and shifting shadows, picking bugs out of your paint and getting both a sunburn and a backache.”
The North Gwinnett Arts Association held an event called Suwanee Plein Air, in which artists were to go out somewhere within the city limits, find a subject and paint it.
So, with kids off with their mother for spring break, I figured, what the hell, and gave it a shot.
After two days, I had: 1) a finished painting; 2) an aching back; 3) learned quite a bit about what I know (a little) and don’t know (a lot) about painting.
Still, it was a lot of fun and if they have this event again, I’ll play. Especially after all the trial and error(s) I experienced. Hey, Claude Monet started this way, right?
