You were in good hands at Lucky Good Hands Massage Parlor, at least until the arrests.

News item via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

An anonymous tip and an undercover investigation at a mall massage parlor led Gwinnett County police to prostitution arrests.

Yingjiu Liu, 40, of Doraville, is accused of soliciting a sex act on an officer at the Lucky Good Hands Massage parlor at the Mall of Georgia, near Buford, police said. She was arrested on a sex-related charge and massage without a permit.

This story reminded me of the massage parlor across the parking lot at the newspaper I worked at in San Jose. One day, one of the production guys decided he needed a neck rub and went in. The masseuse, while plying her trade, asked him if he was a cop. He said no. She then asked if he wanted a “sucky-sucky.” He passed on the offer (so he claimed), but came back to the paper and relayed his experience to us.

After that, we paid much more attention to the suits and khakis who would subtly make their way across the parking lot and into the parlor around quitting time. It was an interesting-looking clientele.

It’s nice to know that Gen Xers—in this case, the members of Hold Your Horses—have an appreciation for art history.

I think I like their depiction of Rembrandt’s “Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp” best, with the subject of the lesson playing keyboards.

But there are five paintings I can’t identify. Who can tell me the the names of the last three paintings, as well as the one where one guy is pinching the nipple of the other guy, and the reclining nude with the ebony guitar player?

UPDATE BELOW:

You just can’t make this kind of stuff up. Another family values Republican gets hoist by his own petard:

News item via TPM Muckraker:

It’s no good for a family values Republican to get picked up on a DUI. But substantially worse to get picked up for a DUI after leaving a gay nightclub with an unidentified man in a state vehicle.

That’s the sorry state that befell California state Senator Roy Ashburn (R-Bakersfield) early Wednesday.

In better days Ashburn, a fierce opponent of gay rights, was fighting marriage equality and organizing anti-gay marriage rallies as part of his “Traditional Family Values” campaign.

UPDATE, March 8, 2010

Via Salon: Anti-gay rights California Sen. Roy Ashburn comes out as gay

During his time in California’s Senate, Roy Ashburn voted against every single gay rights measure that came up. That made the story of his arrest two weeks ago — he was pulled over for drunk driving after leaving a gay bar, and he had another man in the car with him — more than a little interesting.

On Monday, Ashburn admitted to what everyone had pretty much figured out now.

“I’m gay,” he said in a radio interview. “Those are the words that have been so difficult for me for so long.” The Sacramento Bee’s Capitol Alert blog reports that Ashburn explained that he voted the way he did on gay rights because he felt that’s what the voters of his district wanted.

Well, that explains a lot.

Remember playing Mousetrap as a kid? Try as we might, my friends and I could never get the device to work. It could be that over time, many of the pieces got lost and we tried to jerry rig the trap with other bits of plastics and hardware.

Well, considering how hard it was to put together a pre-packaged Rube Goldberg contraption, check out this thing, created by the rock band OK Go for their song “This Too Shall Pass.” The “machine” was designed and built by the band, along with members of Synn Labs over the course of several months.

How the video came together can be viewed here, here, here and here.

A previous video for the song included a marching band.

News item via the Associated Press:

A child apparently directed pilots last month from the air traffic control center at John F. Kennedy Airport, one of the nation’s busiest airports, according to audio clips. The Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday that it was investigating.

“Pending the outcome of our investigation, the employees involved in this incident are not controlling air traffic,” the FAA said in a statement. “This behavior is not acceptable and does not demonstrate the kind of professionalism expected from all FAA employees.” The agency declined to comment beyond the statement.

Recordings from mid-February – during a weeklong winter break for many New York schoolchildren – were posted last month on a Web site for air traffic control-listening aficionados.

The child can be heard on the tape making five transmissions to pilots preparing for takeoff.

In one exchange, the child can be heard saying, “JetBlue 171 contact departure.” The pilot responds: “Over to departure JetBlue 171, awesome job.”

The child appears to be under an adult’s supervision, because a male voice then comes on and says with a laugh, “That’s what you get, guys, when the kids are out of school.”

I’m thinking this was probably not the best call by the father and the supervisor, who have both been suspended and are now being pilloried on TV and radio across the country.

My kids get bored silly at my office, watching me sit at my computer all day long with no airline pilots to talk to. It may have been different when I was working at the newspaper, where I at least could have taken them to see the presses roll, but they were too young for that then. Office jobs probably don’t hold their interest very long, but they still like spending time with me, and going to lunch is usually a highlight.

I guess some jobs are better than others for taking your kid to work. A case in point:
